Our History

Mr.George Farrugia set out to offer his services as an independent accountant on 1st October, 1988 after having had sterling experience both locally and overseas. This experience included 9 years in a commercial and industrial environment and 6 years in audit practice with one of the top three audit firms in the world, both in their Malta offices and overseas.

His clients’ portfolio rapidly increased as many entrepreneurs realised the importance of having professional advisors who, apart from being of the highest calibre, are also in tune with their philosophy, have industry knowledge and professional skills.

This success of his clients meant that by himself he could no longer cater for their growing needs. This resulted in a policy of team building through the recruitment of highly skilled personnel.

Continuity of service to his clients was always one of Mr.Farrugia’s preoccupations. Therefore on 1st January 1993 the partnership GEORGE FARRUGIA & CO was born. The new partnership was immediately crowned with its acceptance as full members of MGI INTERNATIONAL, an international association of independent accounting and consulting firms.

This acceptance to membership followed strong quality control reviews by the international organization. It also meant that the local firm must continue in its policy of continued improvements of the professional skills of its staff.

On 1st March 2003, the firm announced that following a review of future strategic objectives it had re-branded itself to MGI Malta and on 1st July, 2007 the firm underwent another major strategic change of direction when most of the local client portfolio was sold to senior management. Thereafter the firm focused all its resources on the servicing of international clients who decide to make Malta their base for their international trading operations. This allowed us to better dedicate our resources to their more demanding needs thereby giving them better value and at the same time provide our staff with more challenging environment.

On 1st July 2011 the MGI Group merged with the Gatt Galea & Co group of companies and adopted the MGI brand for the combined operations. On the same date, the operational offices were moved from Fgura to Zebbug where tailor made office space has been secured in a brand new office complex. In designing our new office premises, great care was given to minimizing our carbon footprint through the use of natural lighting and latest energy efficient fixtures and equipment.
